  • The Shasta daisy was created by famed American horticulturist Luther Burbank in 1901 after 17 years of crossbreeding four different daisy species.
  • Burbank named it after the snow-capped Mount Shasta in California, since the flowers are pure brilliant white.
  • Shasta daisies are the classic 'he loves me, he loves me not' flower — used for centuries to test love.
  • The flower head, like other composites, is built from yellow disc florets in the center surrounded by white ray florets.
  • Burbank's original Shasta daisy patent was one of the very first plant patents ever issued in the United States.
