  • Despite the common name 'Cape Fuchsia', it is not related to true fuchsias — the resemblance is purely convergent evolution.
  • It is one of only two species in the genus Phygelius, both endemic to southern Africa.
  • Sunbirds are its primary pollinators in native habitats, hovering to sip nectar from the tubular flowers.
  • The genus name comes from Greek 'phyge' meaning flight, possibly referring to the way flowers hang and sway.
