- Known as 'daisy bush' because the shrub becomes covered in clusters of small white daisy-like flowers.
- It is the hardiest of all olearias, surviving in exposed coastal gardens where salt spray kills most plants.
- Named for Julius von Haast, the German-born geologist who explored and mapped much of New Zealand's Southern Alps.
- The leathery, olive-green leaves have white felted undersides that reflect light in the wind.
- In Britain it is one of the most popular screening and hedging shrubs for seaside gardens.
