  • It is one of the first plants to colonize riverbanks, glacial moraines, and recently deglaciated terrain.
  • The Inuit people traditionally eat the young leaves raw or cooked and use the plant as a source of vitamins.
  • Unlike its taller relative fireweed, Dwarf Fireweed has proportionally much larger flowers relative to its plant size.
  • It is the national flower of Greenland, where it is called niviarsiaq meaning 'young girl.'
